The Kaduna State Government has restated its commitment to improving education through strategic investments in teacher development. The Acting Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB), Mr. Mubarak Mohammed, said this during a certificate presentation ceremony for trained teachers held on Friday in Kaduna.

Mr. Mohammed revealed that over 26,000 teachers across the state have been trained in vital areas such as literacy and numeracy. He said the state government is collaborating with the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigerian Education (PLANE) and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to ensure teachers receive formal certification and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credits.

“Our goal is to improve teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes by equipping teachers with the right skills and knowledge,” he stated.

He further disclosed plans to train an additional 6,000 teachers during the current academic session. According to him, the training is conducted online at a low cost, giving teachers the flexibility to learn at their own pace without the burden of travel or large gatherings.

Mr. Mohammed praised TRCN for its efforts in promoting digital literacy among teachers and reaffirmed KADSUBEB’s readiness to deepen collaboration. He also appreciated PLANE’s support, urging teachers to use their new skills to enhance classroom instruction and student performance.

Speaking at the event, PLANE’s State Team Lead, Mrs. Diana Agabi, explained that the training focused on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). She noted that digital platforms like WhatsApp were used to facilitate peer learning, professional interaction, and the sharing of effective classroom practices.

Mrs. Agabi added that the programme, implemented in four pilot Local Government Areas (LGAs), allowed teachers to earn credit units recognised by TRCN.

Representing the TRCN State Coordinator, Esther Natsa, Mrs. Nafisa Abbas highlighted the council’s role in regulating the teaching profession in Nigeria. She said, “TRCN is committed to enforcing professional standards and providing continuous growth opportunities through structured programmes and accredited institutions.”

The event marked a significant step in the state’s education reform efforts, aimed at improving teacher quality and boosting student achievement across Kaduna State.
