The Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA) has engaged over 400 students through its Digital Academy Campus Connect programme, as part of efforts to equip young people with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.

The event, held at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, brought together students from different faculties in what organisers described as a significant step towards building a digitally skilled and innovation-driven youth population in the state.

The programme featured a mix of expert-led sessions, live demonstrations, competitions, and interactive engagements designed to expose participants to emerging opportunities in the digital economy. Students also had the opportunity to compete for prizes, with winners receiving cash rewards and free Corporate Affairs Commission business registration.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of KASEDA, Dr Babangida Ruma, said the initiative goes beyond a one-off engagement, noting that it forms part of a broader strategy to reposition the state’s youth for economic relevance.

He said, “This is not just an event, it is part of a broader movement to create a more innovative, productive, and prosperous Katsina State.”

Ruma further stressed the importance of skills acquisition in today’s economy, stating that formal education alone is no longer sufficient to guarantee success.

“Education alone is no longer enough without relevant skills. In today’s economy, skills create access, innovation creates value, and entrepreneurship creates wealth,” he added.

According to the organisers, the Campus Connect initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world opportunities by bringing digital training and innovation-focused programmes directly to students within their campuses.

They noted that the initiative aims to nurture a new generation of creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs who can contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic growth.

Participants described the event as impactful, citing the practical insights, exposure to digital tools, and opportunities for business support as key benefits.

KASEDA said it remains committed to expanding access to digital skills development across the state, with plans to replicate the programme in other tertiary institutions.

The agency added that the long-term goal is to build a strong ecosystem that supports innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development driven by young people.
