June 26, 2025 – The Katsina State Executive Council has approved major reforms in the education sector and expanded the Rumbun-Sauki food relief programme to cover all 34 local government areas. This was announced today, June 26, 2025, after the Council’s 8th regular meeting held at the Government House, Katsina.

Speaking to journalists, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Service Reforms, Usman Isyaku, revealed that the Council discussed the worrying decline in student enrollment at state-owned diploma, NCE, and degree-awarding institutions. He stated that the government is determined to revive public trust in the education system.

“The Council approved the setting up of a Task Force to implement critical resolutions aimed at improving academic quality across these institutions,” Isyaku explained. He also mentioned that strategic media campaigns and community engagement sessions will be organised to warn parents about the dangers of unaccredited private schools operating in Katsina.

Isyaku further disclosed that the Council has endorsed a phased approach to introducing short- and long-term reforms in both primary and secondary schools to raise the overall standard of education in the state.

In a related development, the Special Adviser on Rural Economic Empowerment, Hon. Muktar Nuhu Danja, shared updates on the Rumbun-Sauki food intervention scheme. The initiative, launched by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, aims to reduce the hardship caused by the rising cost of food items.

“With ₦4 billion already invested, Council today reviewed market realities and approved a downward review of food prices under the scheme,” Danja stated. He confirmed that over 15,000 people have so far benefited, including civil servants, UBEC staff, retirees, and senior citizens aged 60 and above.

“Initially piloted in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua, the programme will now be extended to all 34 local government areas. More subsidised food shops will open, meaning more families will benefit from this initiative,” Danja added.

He reassured residents that the Radda administration remains committed to introducing practical, people-centred policies to support vulnerable groups.
