August 21, 2025 – The Katsina State Government has launched a large-scale teacher training programme for 18,000 teachers and commenced the distribution of 20,000 tablets to improve teaching quality across the state.
The initiative was officially flagged off by Acting Governor Malam Faruq Lawal Jobe at the Local Government Service Commission Conference Hall, Kaita Road.
“These are not just statistics but a strategic investment in the future of our children. By equipping teachers with modern tools and necessary training, we are aligning our educational system with global standards to prepare our students for 21st-century competitiveness,” Jobe stated.
The training and tablet distribution are part of a broader education reform agenda aimed at raising standards in schools.
Other measures under the reform include the distribution of 30,000 uniforms to underprivileged children and the installation of CCTV cameras in 130 schools to strengthen security. These efforts are positioned as key strategies to modernize the education sector and ensure quality learning environments.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, described the programme as “a significant milestone” in restoring educational excellence in Katsina State. She expressed appreciation to the World Bank, the Universal Basic Education Commission, and other development partners for their collaboration, while assuring that more teacher empowerment and capacity-building projects will follow.
State Project Coordinator of the Teaching Excellence Support System programme, Hajiya Binta Abdulmumini, explained that 90 master trainers would be responsible for cascading the training to the 18,000 teachers across the state. She added that each teacher would receive a tablet preloaded with lesson plans and digital teaching resources designed to enhance classroom delivery and digital learning.
Chairperson of the Katsina State Teachers’ Association, Hajiya Rakiya Shehu, commended the government for its commitment to education and urged all stakeholders to ensure the initiative achieves its goals.
The government has also provided 70 motorcycles to school monitoring officers to enhance supervision, especially in rural communities, and distributed specialised teaching aids for schools supporting blind and deaf students.
These combined actions reflect the administration’s determination to strengthen the education system and provide inclusive learning opportunities for all children.
