Kwara tasks Traditional Ruler to mobilise women for NFWP-SU initiative

The Kwara State Government has urged the traditional ruler of Igbaja to use his influence to mobilise women in the community to participate actively in the Nigeria for Women Program (NFWP) Scale-Up project, as part of efforts to boost women’s inclusion and economic stability.

The call was made on Thursday during an advocacy visit by the state government to the palace of the Elese of Igbaja, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hammed Awuni Babalola Arepo III, in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply in the ministry, Alhaji Rasheed Ubandawaki, said the administration of the Kwara State Government remains committed to programmes that empower women and strengthen local economies.

He explained that the Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up project is designed to reduce economic vulnerability among women by improving access to financial services and supporting sustainable income-generating activities. He added that strong community involvement is essential for the programme to achieve its goals.

Ubandawaki commended the Elese of Igbaja for promoting peace and unity in the community and assured him of the government’s resolve to improve household welfare through targeted empowerment initiatives.

The State Project Coordinator, Hajia Medinat Idris, said the programme is a Federal Government initiative supported by the state and implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs. According to her, the project is expected to increase household income, improve family harmony and enhance overall quality of life.

In his response, the Elese of Igbaja praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritising women’s development and pledged the community’s support to ensure the programme succeeds across the state.
