The Lagos State Government has partnered with Diageo Nigeria to train over 250 young Nigerians in hospitality, entrepreneurship, and retail through the Learning for Life programme. This youth empowerment initiative is aimed at promoting job creation and economic growth across Lagos.

The official launch took place on Monday, July 14, 2025, at The Wings Tower, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event marks a major step in building a skilled workforce using public-private partnerships.

The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, represented the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, at the event.

He praised Diageo Nigeria for introducing the initiative in Lagos and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to youth development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the Learning for Life programme as “a bold step toward sustainable youth development.” He explained that the programme fits well with the THEMES+ Agenda, especially in areas related to education, social inclusion, and youth empowerment.

“This partnership between Diageo Nigeria and the Lagos State Government is a shining example of how public-private collaboration can drive meaningful change, especially in tackling unemployment and promoting skills development,” he said.

The programme focuses on teaching practical skills in bartending, hospitality, and entrepreneurship—areas that are important for Nigeria’s growing service and tourism sectors.

The State hopes to reduce unemployment and also create lasting economic impact through digital marketing, small business development, and vocational education by training young people in these fields.
