June 26, 2025 – The Lagos State Government has responded to claims made by Mr. Peter Obi regarding the demolition of a property allegedly belonging to his brother. According to the state, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) or any other government body was not responsible for such demolition.

Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development, who oversees LASBCA, confirmed that “the agency was not involved in the demolition.” He described the allegation as false and urged members of the public to get accurate information before spreading claims.

The government emphasised its dedication to maintaining the rule of law, protecting lives, and promoting urban development across Lagos. In a statement, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, said, “We find it disturbing that Mr. Peter Obi would make such allegations without verifying the facts.”

He added, “The Lagos State Government will not tolerate acts of lawlessness or violations of extant laws. Anyone found engaging in such will be brought to justice.”

To ensure full transparency, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, FNIA, has been instructed to request a thorough investigation by LASBCA. The investigation aims to reveal the truth behind the demolition and guide the next steps.

The Lagos Government further encouraged residents to ignore Mr. Obi’s claims and trust in the state’s efforts to maintain peace and order. “We welcome everyone to live and work in Lagos, and we remain committed to the safety and well-being of all residents,” the statement read.

The government also assured that no attempt to discredit its work would distract from the mission to achieve sustainable urban development and a greater Lagos for all.
