The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has officially released the 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar for all public and private schools below tertiary level. This announcement was made through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), ensuring alignment with both national education standards and local needs.
The release followed a thorough and inclusive consultation process. Stakeholders from across the education sector, including school owners, principals, educational consultants, and regulatory bodies, participated in the decision-making. The calendar was finalized and ratified during a stakeholders’ meeting and later approved by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.
Mr. Remi Abdul, Coordinating Director of OEQA, outlined the key dates. According to him, “The approved calendar for 2025/2026 is as follows: First Term begins Monday, 15th September 2025 and ends Friday, 19th December 2025. Second Term will run from Monday, 12th January 2026 to Friday, 17th April 2026. Third Term will start on Monday, 4th May 2026 and close on Friday, 24th July 2026.”
He emphasized that the academic calendar takes into consideration national policies, public holidays, and mandatory instructional weeks. It also provides room for flexibility, especially for international schools, while promoting a standardized school system across Lagos State.
“All schools are expected to strictly comply with the dates and guidelines. The Office of Education Quality Assurance will conduct regular monitoring and compliance checks,” Abdul said.
He further added, “The Lagos State Government remains committed to quality education, promoting academic performance, and maintaining a stable learning environment for all learners.”
The calendar supports education management, enhances planning, and ensures synchronization across schools. It also supports parents and school owners with better scheduling, helping avoid unnecessary disruptions. The harmonised academic calendar is now available for download via the official OEQA Form.
