The Lagos State Government has announced plans to launch the Lagos Education Access Fund (LEAF), an initiative designed to help bring out-of-school children in the state back into the formal education system.
The programme, which will be implemented through the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) in partnership with the Education Outcomes Fund (EOF), aims to provide support for vulnerable children and their families so they can return to school and continue their education.
According to the organisers, the initiative is part of a broader effort to address the growing challenge of out-of-school children and ensure that every child in Lagos has access to quality basic education.
Officials explained that LEAF will focus on identifying vulnerable children who have dropped out of school and providing the support needed to help them re-enter the education system.
“The Lagos Education Access Fund will help ensure that children who are currently out of school have the opportunity to return to the classroom and build a better future for themselves,” the organisers stated.
They added that the programme will also support parents and guardians whose economic challenges have prevented their children from staying in school.
“This initiative is about giving vulnerable children and families a second chance at education and helping them stay in school,” organisers said.
The programme is supported by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, the UBS Optimus Foundation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The launch event is scheduled to take place at the State House Marina on Friday, 13 March 2026.
