Hon. Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa is set to roll out a mega ₦2 billion empowerment programme for residents of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, in what is being described as one of the largest grassroots economic support initiatives in the area in recent years.
The programme, scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Ohafia Local Government Area Secretariat in Ebem Ohafia, is designed to directly improve livelihoods, strengthen small businesses, and reduce poverty across the constituency. It is expected to attract key political figures, including Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu.
At the heart of the initiative is the distribution of practical tools and equipment targeted at different groups such as youths, women, artisans, traders, and farmers. Beneficiaries will receive items including motorcycles, tricycle trucks, mini buses, sewing machines, refrigerators, generators, grinding machines, and over 800 bags of rice.
Speaking on the programme, Osonwa said the intervention reflects his commitment to people-focused representation. According to him, “This initiative is about putting real economic tools in the hands of our people so they can build, grow, and sustain their livelihoods.”
He stressed that empowerment at the grassroots level remains essential for long-term development. “Beyond infrastructure, we must invest directly in our people. When individuals are empowered, households improve, and the entire local economy benefits,” he said.
The programme will also include the provision of farm road grading equipment such as a grader and payload loader to improve access to rural areas and support agricultural productivity.
Osonwa added that the goal is to create lasting impact rather than temporary relief. “We are focused on creating opportunities that will continue to generate income and support families long after this event,” he stated.
Residents across Arochukwu and Ohafia have already expressed anticipation, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
