The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) has announced a transformative partnership with GIZ, aimed at preparing young people in Lagos for the jobs of tomorrow. The new employability support initiative, funded by the German and Swiss governments through the SKYE II programme, is designed to not only teach valuable skills but to change lives.
“This isn’t just another training program,” LSETF stated. “It is a lifeline of hope, a commitment to the dreams of young Lagosians, and a signal that their future is worth investing in.”
This groundbreaking project targets three high-impact sectors that are essential to future economies: Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT), Trade and Commerce, and Recycling and Environmental Sustainability. These sectors are seen as key drivers of job creation and sustainable development.
The structure of the programme includes a 4-week intensive training period followed by a 3-month internship. This blend ensures that participants not only learn essential skills but also gain real-world experience that prepares them for employment or entrepreneurship.
A major highlight of the initiative is its strong commitment to social inclusion. The programme provides dedicated support for women and people with disabilities. “A future worth building must be a future where everyone has a seat at the table,” the organisers emphasised.
The project will be executed through trusted Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), chosen not just for their facilities, but for their commitment to shaping lives. These include @bukolaneville_creativity, @8thgearhub, @scallopmediaandtechnology, @retreasurehq, @icsoutsourcinglimited, @cvl_ng, @obsidianadvisory, and @nerdzfactory_co.
“These are more than learning spaces,” LSETF noted, “they are beacons of transformation, led by people whose empathy matches their expertise.”
With backing from international development partners and a focus on youth empowerment, digital skills, and green economy jobs, this initiative signals a bold step forward.
“Together, we are lighting torches. We are building legacies. We are rewriting the future one life at a time,” the statement concluded.
