The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) has announced the opening of enrolment for its Soft Skills Academy, a programme designed to equip young Nigerians with critical workplace competencies required in today’s evolving job market.
According to the Fund, technical ability alone is no longer sufficient to secure and retain employment, as employers now place increasing value on soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, adaptability, and teamwork. These competencies, often described as the “human skills” of the digital age, are becoming decisive factors in recruitment and career advancement.
The Soft Skills Academy, implemented under the Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) initiative, aims to bridge this gap by providing structured training that prepares participants for real-world professional environments. The programme is supported by development partners including the German Cooperation and other international implementing organisations.
LSETF stated that the academy is fully virtual and self-paced, allowing participants to learn at their convenience while gaining relevant knowledge applicable across multiple industries. Upon completion, participants will receive certificates to validate their newly acquired skills.
The agency noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to tackle unemployment and underemployment in Lagos State by improving the overall employability of young people. By focusing on soft skills, the programme seeks to complement technical expertise and position participants for long-term success.
“In today’s job market, talent alone is no longer enough. Soft skills have become the real differentiator, influencing hiring decisions and career growth,” the Fund said in its announcement.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade their capabilities and remain competitive in a rapidly changing workforce.
