The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has announced a six (6) month remediation programme for foreign trained graduates of Medicine and Dentistry who have completed their training and obtained medical or dental degree certificates. According to the Council, the programme is designed “to update their knowledge and skills in line with the standards required for medical and dental practice in Nigeria.”

The MDCN stated that the programme will run from Monday 16 February, 2026 to Friday 14 August, 2026. It will take place at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja. The Council explained that the exercise is part of its responsibility to ensure quality and uniform standards in medical and dental practice across the country.

Under the eligibility criteria, the Council noted that the programme is meant for medical and dental graduates who completed their training and obtained medical or dental degree certificates from their country of training. It added that “submissions will be reviewed and only eligible candidates will be enrolled.” The MDCN also warned that online course work and unregulated “clinical rotation in home-country” are not acceptable.

For registration, the Council directed applicants to register through its official website at www.portal.mdcn.gov.ng/remediation/programme. Interested applicants are required to upload electronic copies of relevant academic qualifications, including GCE, SSCE, NECO or equivalent certificates, with five (5) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two sittings, as well as medical or dental degree certificates.

Other required documents include relevant portions of the International Passport showing visa, arrival and departure pages, a colour passport-size photograph, and a birth certificate or statutory declaration of age. The MDCN disclosed that the registration portal will open on Monday, 26 January, 2026.

On fees, the Council stated that the non-refundable training fee is “one million, two hundred thousand naira only (N1,200,000.00) per applicant.” It added that dental applicants will pay an additional N100,000.00 for dental materials, noting that the fees exclude accommodation and feeding.

The MDCN also issued an important notice to those affected by the Ukraine and Sudan conflicts, describing the exercise as “a final call” and compulsory for applicants whose training was disrupted by the 2022 Ukraine war and 2023 Sudan conflict.
