Lagos youths have received a major boost in digital empowerment, thanks to a collaboration between MTN Nigeria and the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education. The initiative, part of MTN’s annual Y’ello Care employee volunteer programme, was recently concluded at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre (RVTC) in Igbogbo, Ikorodu.

The three-day programme focused on practical tech skills, especially coding training, aimed at preparing young people for the modern job market. Participants were introduced to foundational coding concepts, equipping them with digital tools necessary to navigate today’s evolving tech-driven economy.

During the closing event, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, Director of the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, praised MTN’s efforts, saying, “We are truly grateful to MTN for their benevolence. This generous donation of digital tools and renewable energy systems will significantly enhance the training experience at RVTC. It will go a long way in empowering our trainees with relevant vocational and digital skills.”

MTN’s support went beyond just training. The telecom giant donated essential equipment to the centre, including five new 2-in-1 HP Desktop computers and five UPS units, ensuring stable electricity supply for consistent learning.

To support uninterrupted power, MTN also installed a 3.5 KVA solar inverter system, complete with two tubular batteries and four solar panels. This clean energy solution is expected to sustain the centre’s digital operations efficiently.

In addition, MTN provided a 5G router with a three-month subscription plan to ensure reliable internet connectivity, enabling access to online resources and learning platforms. These contributions align with high-demand sectors such as renewable energy, tech development, and digital education, empowering youths with in-demand skills.

Present at the event were key representatives from the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, including Ibukun Seriki, Ibraheem Mustapha, Olaide Oladunjoye, Adegoke Otaru, Adeniyi Ologuntoye, along with RVTC Principal Mosun Otitoloju and Vice-Principal Olayemi Adesina.
