A message circulating online claiming that the Federal Government, through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), is recruiting 5 million farmers for the 2026 farming season has been declared false by the agency.
The viral message, widely shared on social media and messaging platforms, urged Nigerian farmers to submit an “Expression of Interest” through the NADF website. It also claimed that selected farmers would receive subsidised fertilisers, high-yield seeds and mechanisation support as part of preparations for the 2026 farming season.
However, NADF has officially distanced itself from the information.
In a public notice, the Fund clarified that it did not issue any call for farmers and has not opened any portal for such recruitment.
According to the agency, the circulating message did not originate from NADF and should not be treated as an official announcement.
The statement reads in part that the National Agricultural Development Fund wishes to inform the public that the message claiming the Fund is recruiting five million farmers for 2026 is false. The agency stressed that no such programme has been announced and no application process is currently ongoing.
NADF therefore advised members of the public, especially farmers and agricultural cooperatives, to disregard the viral message.
The Fund also urged Nigerians to rely only on official channels for verified information regarding its programmes and initiatives.
With misinformation spreading quickly online, farmers are encouraged to verify opportunities through official government websites and statements before submitting any personal or organisational information.
