On July 28, 2025, the Nasarawa State Government will launch a $9.735 million School Improvement Grant (SIG) for public secondary schools. The initiative is in partnership with the AGILE (Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment) Nasarawa project and will be unveiled at the Aliyu Akwe Banquet Hall, Government House in Lafia.
According to the announcement, the SIG is part of Component 1.2 of the AGILE Nasarawa project. It is aimed at improving infrastructure in secondary schools across all 13 local government areas.
“This is a major step in strengthening our public education system and creating safer school environments for our girls,” they stated.
A total of 490 public schools will benefit from this education grant. Based on student population, 331 schools will receive $15,000 each, while 159 schools will be allocated $30,000 each. The funds are meant to support physical development in schools.
The grant will cover classroom renovations, the construction of gender- and disability-sensitive toilets, the provision of desks and other school furniture, the establishment of science laboratories, and the supply of teaching and learning materials. These upgrades are intended to raise the standard of education and improve learning outcomes.
The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State is expected to host the launch. Other key attendees include the Deputy Governor, members of the State House of Assembly, First Class Traditional Rulers, State Commissioners, and representatives from the State Ministry of Education.
Also present will be members of the AGILE National Coordination Team and the National Project Coordinating Unit (NPCU).
The event highlights the state’s investment in girl-focused education reforms and its goal to promote inclusive and equitable learning opportunities.
