August 12, 2025 – The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Mathew Adepoju, has restated the agency’s dedication to using space-enabled data and innovations to advance geological mapping, resource exploration, and environmental protection in Nigeria.

He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Director General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), Prof. Olusegun Ige, and his team to NASRDA Headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Adepoju explained that the collaboration between both agencies would open new opportunities in space technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation for Nigerian youths. According to him, such initiatives have the potential to create billionaires and generate substantial revenue for the nation.

He proposed the establishment of a joint technical committee to ensure the partnership leads to concrete projects, noting that NASRDA is already implementing socio-economic initiatives through its Centre for Geodesy and Geodynamics in Toro, Bauchi State.

Prof. Ige stressed that accurate and accessible geological data is essential for key industries, including aviation, manufacturing, construction, and energy.

He pointed out that NGSA’s expertise in land-based geological surveys, when combined with NASRDA’s advanced space technology, will lead to improved resource management and contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable development.

The meeting underscored how integrating space science with geological research could enhance mineral exploration, support infrastructure development, and strengthen environmental monitoring systems.

Both agencies expressed confidence that the partnership would align with national economic goals while creating more employment opportunities and encouraging innovation-driven growth across multiple sectors.
