The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has launched a major empowerment initiative aimed at improving agricultural productivity among persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

On Monday, July 7, 2025, the Commission distributed fertilizers and basic farming tools to beneficiaries, who were grouped into clusters across different disability organisations.

This intervention aligns with the Commission’s broader objective of enhancing inclusive farming through assistive technologies and practical support. The initiative is designed to improve farm yields and promote economic independence for persons with disabilities.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Idemudia reaffirmed the Commission’s ongoing support for the community. “This distribution is part of our broader goal to support and enhance the lives of persons with disabilities. We have more initiatives in the pipeline to further empower our beneficiaries,” he stated.

The Commission’s support contributes to poverty reduction and also enhances equal opportunity in the farming sector.

Beneficiaries from several disability-focused organisations attended the event and expressed appreciation.

The groups included the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Nigerian Association of the Blind, Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, Albinism Association of Nigeria, Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disability of Nigeria, National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities, Spinal Cord Association of Nigeria, and Persons Affected by Leprosy.
