NDPC Call for Papers for 2025 International Journal of Data Privacy and Protection

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has officially announced a call for papers for the second edition of its peer-reviewed International Journal of Data Privacy and Protection (IJDPP), with ISSN 1595-0794. The theme for the 2025 edition is Advancing Compliance and Safeguarding Rights in the Age of Emerging Technologies.

According to the NDPC, the journal is part of its “strategic commitment to knowledge-driven regulation and responsible data governance.” The publication aims to create a platform for critical discussions, research, and practical solutions within the data protection field. The Commission is inviting contributions from a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, privacy professionals, policymakers, legal experts, and technologists.

The journal’s second edition will cover important topics such as data subject rights, data privacy impact assessments, and privacy by design/default. The NDPC said this edition “seeks to explore critical issues at the intersection of Compliance, Data Subject Rights, Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Privacy by Design/Default, and the impact of Emerging Technologies on Data governance.”

Focus areas for submissions may include the following topics:

1. Regulatory Compliance: Best practices, challenges, and enforcement under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act) and global frameworks (GDPR, etc.).
2. Data Subject Rights: Real-world application of rights to access, rectification, object, erasure, and data portability.
3. DPIAs and Risk-Based Approaches: Case studies, models, or tools that enhance proactive data protection assessments.
4. Privacy by Design & Default: Integration of privacy principles into systems, services, Al models. and digital infrastructure.
5. Emerging Technologies: Implications of Al, big data, lot, blockchain, and blometrics on privacy and compliance.
6. Sectoral Trends: Privacy developments in finance, health education, digital ID, FinTech, smart cities, and public sector data use.
7. Comparative Perspectives: Insights from African countries and global South on compliance strategies. contextual application, or indigenous frameworks.

Submission guidelines state that each article must contain a 250-word abstract, follow APA 7th edition referencing style, and be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with page numbers. Acceptable types of submissions include research articles, policy briefs, and case studies, with word counts between 3,500 and 7,000.

The NDPC also confirmed that “the review process will follow a double-blind model,” ensuring transparency and fairness.

Important dates are as follows: Submission opens: July 15, 2025
Deadline for submission: September 06, 2025
Notification of acceptance: October 14, 2025
Final revised papers due: November 30, 2025
Publication date: January 2026
