The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the student loan application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session for institutions that officially requested more time for their students to complete applications on the NELFUND portal.
According to the Fund, the extension only applies to institutions that formally wrote to request additional time to allow their eligible students finish submitting their loan applications.
The decision is aimed at ensuring that students in those institutions are not left out of the student loan programme due to time constraints during the application process.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to widening access to the scheme.
“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme,” Sawyerr said.
He explained that the extension was approved to support institutions that needed more time to guide their students through the application process.
NELFUND also urged all eligible students in the affected institutions to take advantage of the extension and complete their applications through the official NELFUND student loan portal.
