Application is now open for SPACEFEST 2026, an online space research competition organized by the Federal Government through Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT). The initiative marks NIGCOMSAT’s 20th anniversary and aims to spotlight the research capacity of university space clubs across Nigeria.
SPACEFEST 2026 is designed to bring together Nigeria’s next generation of space professionals and connect them to the national space ecosystem. The competition is open to all registered space clubs in Nigerian universities. Participating clubs are required to submit original research conducted by their members within the approved timeframe.
To reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the space sector, entries are divided into two tracks. Track A focuses on Science and Engineering, while Track B covers Policy, Business and Education. Each club must select only one track and submit a single research entry based on work they have already completed at the point of submission.
The winning team will have the opportunity to attend Satellite Week in Abuja in March 2026, providing national exposure and engagement with key stakeholders in the space industry. All research submissions must be made online through the official registration link.
To be eligible, a space club must be officially affiliated with a Nigerian university. The research must have been conducted between January 2024 and December 2025 and must be original work carried out by members of the submitting club. Both undergraduate and postgraduate members are eligible to participate. Collaborative submissions between different universities are not allowed, as each entry must represent a single club.
Registration is open for seven days, from 25 February to 4 March. Interested clubs can register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeeEIHnJNHsyp6PTyAqJ3zkQeHKnd6ows8Zflds8cyf19CEKg/viewform.
