The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a strong warning to the public, stating that it does not conduct recruitment or auctions through social media platforms. This announcement was made by the Spokesperson of the NCS, who expressed concern over the increasing number of scams targeting Nigerians online.

ā€œI think it’s very unfortunate that we have some unpatriotic Nigerians that have sought to defraud members of the public in the name of auction and in the name of recruitment on social media,ā€ the spokesperson said.

He stressed that several fake social media accounts have been created in his name to deceive unsuspecting individuals. ā€œIf you search my name on Facebook, you are going to see clone accounts that do not belong to me. I have nothing to do with those accounts. There are more than 10 or whatever in number. I have one Facebook page and it is verified. It has a blue tick. So that is the only Facebook page I have,ā€ he explained.

The spokesperson clarified that his verified account has never posted any content related to recruitment or auction. ā€œFrom beginning to end, you will never see me auctioning or saying ā€˜come pay this amount’ in the name of recruitment.ā€

He cautioned Nigerians against falling victim to these scams, emphasizing the risks involved in making payments to unknown individuals. ā€œNo matter how desperate we are, we shouldn’t fall to the antics of these people,ā€ he advised.

He made it clear that the Nigeria Customs Service will never collect money from any individual for recruitment or auction through unofficial means. ā€œNigeria Customs Service do not, will not, and will never conduct recruitment on social media, neither auction any item on social media. Let me state clearly, we do not conduct auction or recruitment on social media,ā€ he stated firmly.

He warned Nigerians to avoid paying into personal accounts. ā€œIf you pay money to a private account, then your desperation will lead you astray. Do not pay your money to anyone in the name of recruitment or auction,ā€ he said.

ā€œIf you are eligible and you have gotten auction through direct allocation or auction, you will be asked to pay to the federal government, you are going to pay to the bank, not to a private account,ā€ he added.

He concluded by urging the public to stay vigilant. ā€œThe moment someone calls you that ā€˜I am Mr. A from Seme Customs, we are doing auction of vehicles in Seme or Badagry,’ and you fall prey to pay money into that person’s account, then you are not diligent,ā€ he warned.
