The Commander General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS, Dr Joshua Osatimehin, has urged Nigerians to ignore online reports claiming that the Service is recruiting 30,000 personnel nationwide. He said the information circulating on social media about a recruitment exercise is false and misleading.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Dr Osatimehin explained that the fake reports were created by fraudsters aiming to take advantage of the growing reputation and achievements of the NFSS. He stated that the Service is not currently conducting any recruitment and does not have any official recruitment portal in operation.

“We at the National Headquarters of NFSS here do not have official portal yet but you’ll recall that President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the establishment of NFSS,” he said. “We’re at the verge of harmonization and it’s after the harmonization has been done that through the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment that we’re going to be directed on the next line of action. But we in NFSS are not doing any recruitment hence the need for the general public to disregard the fake news.”

He noted that the Nigeria Forest Security Service recruitment will only take place after all processes for harmonization and proper coordination have been completed.

Dr Osatimehin commended the Senate and House of Representatives for passing the NFSS Bill, saying it shows the lawmakers’ commitment to strengthening forest security across the country. He emphasized that the NFSS remains dedicated to supporting conventional security agencies in combating banditry, kidnapping, Boko Haram, terrorism, and other crimes within Nigeria’s forest areas.

He also advised citizens to stay alert and verify any recruitment-related information from official government channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
