The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced a call for qualified researchers, experts, and institutions to participate in a major national research study focused on the impact of digital technologies on Nigeria’s economy.

This initiative forms part of NITDA’s broader effort to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and deepen Nigeria’s digital economy framework. The study will evaluate how digital transformation is shaping economic growth, sectoral performance, and the country’s overall digital readiness.

About the Research Study

The national research study is designed to provide in-depth insights into how digital technologies influence key sectors of Nigeria’s economy. It will also assess foundational structures required to support sustainable digital growth.

Selected researchers will contribute to a comprehensive evaluation that will guide policy decisions and support Nigeria’s long-term digital strategy.

Key Focus Areas

The study will assess several critical areas across the Nigerian digital landscape, including:

  • Digital transformation across major sectors such as financial services, government services, telecommunications, retail and commerce, and healthcare
  • Foundational enablers including broadband infrastructure, digital identity systems, data centres, digital skills development, and cybersecurity frameworks
  • Development of national digital indicators aligned with international standards and future reporting requirements

These focus areas are expected to generate actionable insights that will influence government policies and private sector innovation.

Who Should Apply

NITDA is seeking applications from experienced researchers and professionals with strong academic and sectoral backgrounds.

Applicants should preferably hold a PhD in fields such as ICT, Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Computer Science, Data Science, Development Studies, or other related disciplines.

In addition to academic qualifications, candidates must demonstrate proven research and analytical capacity. Prior experience in sectoral research—especially in fintech, e-government, telecommunications, digital commerce, or digital health—will be considered a strong advantage.

Required Application Documents

Interested applicants are expected to submit the following:

  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (maximum of four pages)
  • A one-page Statement of Interest clearly indicating preferred sectors of focus
  • Evidence of previous research work

All documents should reflect the applicant’s expertise, experience, and suitability for the study.

Application Process and Deadline

Applications must be submitted via email to: research@nitda.gov.ng

The deadline for submission is 19th April 2026. Late applications are unlikely to be considered, so early submission is strongly advised.

Engagement Terms

Selected participants will be engaged on a short-term, task-based arrangement aligned with the project implementation plan. Researchers will work under the supervision of a Lead Researcher, alongside a Technical Steering Committee and the R&D Secretariat.

Compensation for the engagement will follow NITDA’s approved guidelines.

Why This Opportunity Matters

This call presents a significant opportunity for Nigerian researchers to contribute to a high-impact national project. The findings from this study will directly shape policies that influence digital innovation, economic diversification, and national development.

For researchers and institutions working at the intersection of technology and development, this is a chance to play a key role in defining Nigeria’s digital future while gaining national-level recognition.

Interested applicants are encouraged to review the requirements carefully and submit strong applications before the deadline.
