NMCN announces centralized nurse intern placement

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has announced the approval for the implementation of a centralized placement system for nurse interns across accredited public health facilities in Nigeria. This development was contained in a circular issued by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Ndagi Alhassan, dated October 27, 2025, with reference number N&MCN/SG/RO/CIR/24/VOL.5/120.

According to the statement, “The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is pleased to inform you that the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare has approved the implementation of centralized placement of nurse interns across accredited public health facilities in Nigeria.”

The Council stated that this new strategy aims to promote transparency and fairness in the deployment of newly qualified nurses for their internship programs. The circular emphasized that the centralized system will help maintain a standardized and efficient process for all nursing graduates.

“This strategy ensures a standardized and transparent process for the deployment of newly qualified nurses for internship programme,” the Registrar explained.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria also assured stakeholders that more information regarding the modalities, timelines, and application procedures will be made available soon. “Further details regarding the modalities, timelines, and application procedures will be communicated officially in due course,” the Council stated.

The circular was addressed to the Honorable Commissioners and Secretaries of Health Services across all states and the Federal Capital Territory, Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities offering Bachelor of Nursing Science degree programs, Chief Medical Directors of University Teaching Hospitals, and other key health sector administrators.

The Council expressed appreciation to all partners and institutions for their continued cooperation and commitment toward promoting and maintaining excellence in nursing education and practice across Nigeria.
