Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of the President, has announced plans to launch a National Community Food Bank Project aimed at tackling child malnutrition and improving access to nutritious food for vulnerable Nigerians across the country.

The First Lady disclosed this during the distribution of food items to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in Taraba State.

Represented at the event by the Wife of the Vice-President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, Senator Tinubu explained that the proposed project is designed to strengthen community-based food support systems and ensure that children in underserved communities receive adequate nutrition.

According to her, the initiative will officially be launched later this year in Borno State through collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and the Bank of Agriculture.

She said the project forms part of broader efforts to address malnutrition among children while supporting families and vulnerable populations struggling with access to food.

“The National Community Food Bank Project is designed to strengthen community support systems and ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive,” she said.

Senator Tinubu also stressed the importance of ensuring that food support initiatives directly reach the intended beneficiaries, particularly those most affected by economic hardship.

While handing over food items to the Taraba State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative and Wife of the Governor, Agyin Kefas, the First Lady urged stakeholders involved in the distribution process to remain transparent and committed.

“It is important that these food items are distributed to the right beneficiaries across the state so that the purpose of the intervention is fully achieved,” she stated.

She further revealed that the food support programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative began in 2024 and has already reached 24 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, with Taraba State becoming the latest beneficiary.

The initiative, she noted, complements the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which focuses on improving the welfare of Nigerians, especially vulnerable groups.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, commended the intervention, describing it as a demonstration of compassionate leadership.

“This programme reflects a strong commitment to addressing the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians and supporting vulnerable groups across our communities,” the governor said.

He also noted that the programme demonstrates effective collaboration among key stakeholders, including the leadership of the Renewed Hope Initiative, wives of governors, and development partners working to improve social welfare across the country.
