Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, today launched the donation of food items to vulnerable groups in Yobe State under the Renewed Hope Initiative. The First Lady, who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Kashim Shettima, said the gesture was part of the food outreach scheme designed to support vulnerable persons across the country.

She explained that the Renewed Hope Initiative is focused on empowering women in agriculture through training, start-up kits, and resources to boost agricultural production. According to her, the programme is in line with national and state agricultural policies that aim to reduce reliance on food importation and encourage food security.

Oluremi Tinubu further noted that the initiative also targets senior citizens and people with special needs. She added that medical support will be provided free of charge, assuring that at least 200 people in each of the 36 states would benefit from similar outreach programmes.

Earlier, the wife of Yobe State Governor and state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni, praised the First Lady for her concern and assistance to vulnerable groups in the state. She said, “I wish to register our profound gratitude and appreciation for your show of love and compassion as demonstrated with this visit and support to our people.”

She highlighted that the government of Governor Mai Mala Buni has embraced the Renewed Hope Initiative with strong support to women, children, and vulnerable groups. Hafsat Buni stated that Yobe has been consistent in supporting women through the distribution of household items, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment programmes.

She said, “I am glad to say that a good percentage of women have been economically empowered under the post-insurgency recovery programme. Similarly, as a deliberate measure to promote girl-child education in the state, the government established eight Girls Secondary Schools across the state, with more in the pipeline.”

Hafsat Buni also noted with pride that Yobe recently produced three world champions at the TeenEagle 2025 Global Championship in London. The winners, Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukayya Mohammed Fema, and Khadija Kashim Kalli, represented Nigeria and brought recognition to the state.

She assured continued support for the Renewed Hope Initiative to improve the lives of Nigerians.

In his remarks, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, said the state government will continue to align with the Renewed Hope Initiative in providing support to women and vulnerable groups. He assured that his administration would sustain efforts to create opportunities for economic empowerment and better welfare for the people of the state.
