The Ondo State Government has fixed new dates for the Ilaje Boat Regatta Festival, with the event now scheduled to hold on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 in Ugbonla, Ilaje Local Government Area.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Afolabi Adesoji, who described the festival as one of the most colourful cultural events in the state.
According to him, “the Ilaje Boat Regatta remains one of the most vibrant cultural showcases in Ondo State, celebrating the rich maritime heritage, traditions and lifestyle of the Ilaje people.”
Adesoji noted that the festival carries strong historical significance for the people of the coastal community.
He explained that the event was last held in 1982 during the administration of former Ondo State Governor, Michael Adekunle Ajasin.
“The revival of the Ilaje Boat Regatta is a major step toward preserving the cultural identity of the Ilaje people and promoting tourism in the coastal region of the state,” he said.
The commissioner also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for supporting efforts aimed at promoting culture and tourism in the state.
He said the governor has shown strong commitment to initiatives designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ondo State to a wider audience.
Activities lined up for the festival include a Boat Paddling Competition, Oju Egwallaje Beauty Pageantry, Cultural Performances, Talents Hunt, as well as Water Sports and Games.
