Applications are now open for the Onitsha Business Hangout × Business Clinic Open Pitch Grant Challenge, a new funding opportunity aimed at supporting microbusinesses, startups, and emerging entrepreneurs across Nigeria’s South-East region.
The initiative, organised by Business Clinic in partnership with Onitsha Business Hangout, is offering a total of N20 million in cash prizes as seed funding to selected businesses with strong growth potential. Beyond financial support, beneficiaries will also gain access to mentorship, business coaching, and increased market visibility designed to help them scale sustainably.
The programme is targeted at entrepreneurs building viable businesses in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States, especially those seeking capital and strategic guidance to expand operations, create jobs, and strengthen their market reach.
About the Open Pitch Grant Challenge
The Open Pitch Grant Challenge was created to identify and support promising small businesses that are already operational but need additional backing to grow.
According to the organisers, the programme is focused on fuelling the next wave of entrepreneurs in the South-East by combining seed capital with expert guidance. Unlike many grant schemes that stop at disbursement, this initiative includes mentorship and ecosystem exposure, giving selected entrepreneurs access to networks that can improve long-term business sustainability.

Who Can Apply
To qualify for the grant challenge, applicants must meet all stated eligibility requirements.

- Live and operate within the South-East region of Nigeria
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a business that has been active for at least one year
- Run either a registered or unregistered business
The organisers clarified that unregistered businesses are still eligible, provided they can submit proof of active operations such as utility bills, lease agreements, or customer receipts.
Business Criteria
Beyond meeting location and age requirements, businesses applying must also demonstrate clear commercial viability.
Eligible businesses must show:
- A sustainable and feasible business plan
- Clear need for grant funding
- Potential for job creation or market expansion
- No history of fraud or illegal activity
This means applicants must present businesses that are not only functional today but capable of measurable growth if funded.
Required Application Documents
All applicants are expected to prepare and upload the following documents during submission:
1. Valid Means of Identification
Accepted IDs include:
- NIN slip/card
- Voter’s card
- Driver’s licence
- International passport
2. Recent Passport Photograph
Applicants must provide a clear and recent passport-sized photograph.
3. Photo of Business Premises
A visible image showing where the business operates is required.
4. Business Summary
Applicants must submit a concise summary of their business, not exceeding two pages.
5. Pitch Deck
A pitch deck using the official template provided by the organisers must also be submitted.
Tell Your Business Story
A major component of the application is the storytelling section, where entrepreneurs are expected to explain their business journey and outline how the grant will impact their growth.
This section gives applicants the chance to communicate:
- What problem their business solves
- Their achievements so far
- How funding will help them scale
- Their long-term vision for growth
Organisers say this part of the process is crucial because it helps reviewers understand the entrepreneur behind the business, not just the numbers.
Application Deadline
Applications are currently open and will close on: 10 May 2026
Interested entrepreneurs are advised to complete their submissions before the deadline, as late entries may not be considered.
