OPay denies wiping customer accounts and shutting down, stating that recent viral claims across media platforms are false and misleading. In a message addressed to users and titled Dear esteemed customer, the company said its attention had been drawn to “false, malicious, and misleading rumours” suggesting that customer accounts were wiped, deposits lost, and operations halted. OPay stated that these claims are “entirely false, misleading and fabricated.”
The fintech company explained that all customer accounts and deposits remain safe, intact, and fully accessible. It added that operations are running normally and that OPay remains financially strong while providing secure and innovative payment services to millions of Nigerians. The company noted that it is a licensed institution regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, and that customer deposits are insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation. OPay said it maintains strict compliance with regulatory requirements, transparency, and customer protection, working closely with regulators to uphold trust and security on its platform.
OPay urged individuals spreading the claims to come forward. It also encouraged anyone with verifiable proof that funds were removed from their account without authorization to present it. The company warned that it will take appropriate legal action against those responsible for pushing the false rumours and fabricated reports.
The public is advised to ignore the misinformation and rely only on updates shared through OPay’s official verified social media accounts and website.
