The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, H.E. Adegboyega Oyetola, has pledged strong action to end Nigeria’s reliance on imported fish.
During a meeting with major fisheries and aquaculture associations, he expressed the government’s dedication to building a self-sufficient fish production system in the country.
“We are scaling up domestic fish production and taking concrete steps to empower women and youth through grants and training,” Oyetola stated.
He added that improving access to finance and insurance remains a key priority, with active partnerships involving the World Bank and the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation.
This move is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on job creation, food security, and economic diversification.
Oyetola emphasized that this initial meeting is the beginning of a long-term engagement to reshape the aquaculture sector.
“Our goal is to transform Nigeria’s aquaculture industry into a global powerhouse,” the Minister said, assuring full government support for the sector’s growth.
