Plan International Nigeria has reaffirmed its focus on youth empowerment by partnering with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. The two bodies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to drive economic growth through skills acquisition initiatives aimed at reducing poverty across Nigeria.
This high-level partnership is set to support young people, especially girls and young women, by offering them access to training, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The goal is to build long-term economic resilience and self-reliance among Nigeria’s youth.
Speaking during the MoU signing, the Honourable Minister, Engr. Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, described the agreement as a major step forward for humanitarian efforts in the country.
“This ministry is about humanity, and we look forward to working with Plan International Nigeria to give this country the honour that it truly deserves,” he said.
The minister also stressed the importance of connecting investments in humanitarian efforts with peacebuilding: “While we are investing in humanitarian and development sectors, it comes to nothing without investing in peace. It is critical in this process to create a Nigeria that all of us dream to have.”
This collaboration will create a joint response plan, involving key stakeholders from local, state, and federal governments, alongside international development partners.
The initiative is designed to promote job creation, reduce unemployment, and strengthen capacity-building for youth through strategic partnerships.
Plan International Nigeria continues to focus on providing tools and resources that help young people lead, thrive, and contribute to national development. This partnership highlights the shared commitment of both organisations to poverty reduction and sustainable development in Nigeria.
