The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday said families of police officers would soon begin to benefit from programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative aimed at improving welfare and empowerment.
Tinubu stated this during a meeting with the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Mrs Mutiat Disu, at the State House, Abuja.
She urged the IGP’s wife to prioritise the welfare of police officers’ wives, noting that targeted interventions would strengthen family support systems within the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking with journalists after the closed-door meeting, Mrs Disu said she was ready to leverage the Renewed Hope Initiative to empower police officers’ wives across the country.
Disu, who is also the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, said her visit was to understudy the First Lady’s programmes and explore areas where members of the association could benefit.
“The purpose of visiting her is to tap from her wealth of experience and to understand the programmes available for the masses, and how POWA can benefit,” she said.
She added that her interaction with the First Lady had provided insights that would help improve the welfare, healthcare, and empowerment of police families.
“I have learnt so much within this short period. By the time I begin working closely with her, our people will benefit more from the Renewed Hope Initiative programmes,” Disu stated.
She further disclosed that plans were underway to extend social intervention and healthcare support under the initiative to police families nationwide.
“What people should expect from me is that I am ready to work with Mama on this initiative, especially as it concerns women, since both RHI and POWA are largely focused on women,” she added.
Disu assumed leadership of the Police Officers’ Wives Association following the appointment of her husband, Tunji Disu, as Inspector General of Police on February 24, 2026.
