June 16, 2025 – President Bola Tinubu has shifted his official visit to Kaduna State and will instead visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. This change comes as part of his renewed efforts to bring peace to conflict-ridden communities in Benue.

According to the presidency, the visit is aimed at addressing the persistent crisis in the state, which has claimed many lives and caused widespread destruction. President Tinubu wants to “assess firsthand” the situation and engage with stakeholders to find a lasting solution.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the change in a statement. “President Tinubu will meet with traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, community representatives, and youth groups during his visit to Benue,” he said.

Before the President’s arrival, top government officials have already been sent ahead to prepare. These include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, heads of intelligence agencies, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees.

A major part of the visit will be a town hall meeting involving all key stakeholders. It is expected to focus on peacebuilding, reconciliation, and security reform.

President Tinubu has earlier condemned the ongoing violence in Benue State. He urged all residents and leaders to embrace peace, understanding, and unity. He also expressed deep sympathy to the victims’ families and those affected by the crisis.
