About 90 residents from Osun West Senatorial District have received training in soap, disinfectant, and air freshener production, along with N100,000 each as start-up capital to support their small-scale businesses. The empowerment programme, held in Ikire, Osun State, was facilitated by the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, with experts present to teach participants the basics of producing the items.
During the event, the lawmaker also began the distribution of 3,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers across the 10 local government areas in the district. According to a statement signed by the senator’s Senior Legislative Aide, Olalere Ogungbade, and released in Osogbo on Friday, Oyewumi was represented at the training.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Ogungbade said the initiative was part of the senator’s broader empowerment plan aimed at helping constituents acquire practical skills that can help them earn a decent income. He said, “Today, we are here to empower 90 constituents through training. They have been trained on how to produce soap, air freshener, and disinfectant.”
He added, “The senator did not stop there. Apart from the training, all the participants were given N100,000 each as start-up capital, and he has promised more support to whoever utilises the fund very well.”
Ogungbade noted that the participants were selected from across the senatorial district. He said, “The participants are more than 100, and they were selected across the Osun West Senatorial District. This training and empowerment will, no doubt, assist our people, and I want to urge the beneficiaries to make use of what they learnt here today.”
He also encouraged residents to continue supporting Senator Oyewumi, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
Speaking on the fertilisers and sprayers purchased for farmers, Ogungbade explained that the gesture was designed to boost agricultural productivity in the district. He said, “Today, the senator also flagged off the distribution of multi-million naira fertilisers and sprayers for farmers in the Senatorial District. The gesture is to assist our farmers, as we all know that one of the problems we have today is food security. These fertilisers will not only boost their yields but also enhance food production.”
He further mentioned the rehabilitation of the Ikire-Oluponna-Iwo road, saying it would improve transportation, support agriculture, and benefit residents once completed.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Samuel Sarah expressed appreciation to the lawmaker. She said, “We have gained a lot through this training, and this shows that the lawmaker really loves his people. After training us, we were also given N100,000 each to start what we learnt, and I want to promise the senator that we will make him proud and utilise the fund very well.”
