Kano State is set to witness another major empowerment drive as the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, through his Barau I. Jibrin Foundation, prepares to distribute ₦20,000 each to over 10,000 less-privileged persons across the 44 local government areas of the state.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, the initiative aims to cushion the effects of economic hardship and empower vulnerable households across Kano.
Mudashir stated that the selection process will commence on Thursday, October 9, 2025, with the distribution of forms to potential beneficiaries. Out of the total figure, 6,500 beneficiaries will be selected from the Kano North Senatorial District, with each of its 13 local government areas producing 500 recipients.
He added that 112 beneficiaries will also be chosen from each local government area in Kano Central and Kano South senatorial districts. “The disbursement is part of Senator Barau’s continued efforts to directly improve the lives of the less-privileged people in the state,” the statement read.
Mudashir highlighted that the foundation has a strong record of humanitarian and empowerment projects covering various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and transportation. He also mentioned that the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation has provided foreign postgraduate scholarships to indigent students, demonstrating a consistent commitment to supporting education and skill development.
Earlier this year, in April, the foundation shortlisted 215 candidates for its Postgraduate Domestic Scholarships for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. Similarly, on September 18, 2025, 1,000 beneficiaries were selected for the 2025/2026 undergraduate scholarship scheme, with award letters presented to recipients on September 20, 2025, at Bayero University, Kano.
Speaking further on the new initiative, Mudashir said empowering women and youth remains a key part of Senator Barau’s agenda. “The Deputy President of the Senate remains deeply committed to empowering the people, fostering economic independence, and supporting grassroots development,” he said.
