Safety For Every Girl (SFEG), in partnership with MTN Nigeria, has launched a nationwide social media competition focused on amplifying women’s voices on safety issues across the country.
The initiative, titled “Her Safety, Her Power” National Social Media Competition 2026, invites Nigerian females aged 13 and above to share personal experiences and propose solutions to safety challenges through short video storytelling. Participants are required to create 60 to 90-second videos responding to the prompt, “The day I felt unsafe as a Nigerian female.”
According to the organisers, entries should reflect real personal experiences while also suggesting practical and realistic ways to improve safety in homes, schools, workplaces, and public spaces. All videos must be shared on Instagram, with participants tagging @SafetyForEveryGirl and using the hashtag #HerSafetyHerPower. The competition is scheduled to close on February 12, 2026.
The campaign offers a total prize pool of ₦1,250,000 aimed at recognising creativity, courage, and solutions-driven thinking. The grand prize winner will receive ₦750,000, while the second and third prize winners will receive ₦350,000 and ₦150,000 respectively.
The competition will culminate at the Safety For Every Girl Period Summit 2026, which will take place in Lagos on March 6, 2026. Activities at the summit will include live showcases of finalist video entries, the official launch of The Power Awards recognising impact in safety advocacy, and panel discussions featuring policymakers, corporate leaders, and cultural influencers.
Speaking on the initiative, Chioma Nwigwe, founder of Safety For Every Girl, said, “By asking for their stories, we are honouring their truth. By asking for their solutions, we are investing in their insights. The prizes reflect the tangible value we place on their voices. ‘Her Safety, Her Power’ is more than a theme; it is an operational principle.”
She added that private sector support plays an important role in promoting gender safety and youth participation in digital advocacy, while SFEG aims to position women’s safety as a key part of social and economic development.
