The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, SSANIP, has issued a fresh 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved demands affecting polytechnic workers nationwide. The ultimatum, contained in a circular dated 18th September 2025, was addressed to the Honourable Minister of Education at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

According to the circular with reference number SSANIP/GEC/FME/046, the union stated that its earlier 21-day ultimatum issued on 27th August 2025 expired on 17th September 2025 without any concrete response from the government. The union said this has forced them to take further steps to push for their demands.

The National Secretary of SSANIP, Comrade Nura Shehu Gaya, FCAI, MNIM, who signed the document, explained that the new ultimatum was issued to give the government another opportunity to resolve the lingering issues. He said, “In line with the provisions of extant labour laws, and as a demonstration of our commitment to industrial peace, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics hereby issues a further 14-day ultimatum effective from the date of this letter.”

The union listed its key demands, including the release of the new schemes and conditions of service for the polytechnic sector, constitution of the renegotiation committee for the 2010 agreement, and release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 NEEDS assessment funds.

Other demands include payment of outstanding arrears such as promotion arrears, 25% and 35% salary review arrears, wage award arrears, and the full implementation of the new minimum wage.

Comrade Gaya added, “This additional period further avails government the opportunity to positively and conclusively address the issues raised as our members have over the period showed remarkable understanding even to their detriment.” He urged the government to act quickly to prevent disruption in the polytechnic sector.
