President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is laying strong foundations for long-term growth and shared prosperity, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said. The Minister made the statement when he received members of the Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) 2027 during a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Idris said the current administration has taken bold and sometimes difficult decisions aimed at placing Nigeria on a more sustainable economic path. He explained that although some of the reforms were challenging, early signs of recovery are already becoming visible across key sectors of the economy. “These steps were taken to stabilise the economy and restore confidence,” the Minister said. “What we are seeing today is the foundations of long-term growth and shared prosperity.”

He stressed that Nigeria’s improving economic outlook must be protected through unity, responsible communication, and collective support for national policies. According to him, negative and distorted narratives about the country can damage investor confidence and slow down development efforts. “We must speak positively and truthfully about Nigeria,” Idris said. “When we project stability and unity, we attract investment and create opportunities for our people.”

The Minister commended the GAT 2027 group for what he described as responsible civic engagement and its willingness to support accurate public information. He welcomed the group’s proposal to partner with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in public enlightenment, youth engagement, and strategic communication. “Advocacy groups play an important role in helping government policies reach the grassroots,” the Minister said, adding that “effective communication is essential to national stability and development.”

Idris also reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to building a country that works for all citizens, regardless of religion or background. He noted that national cohesion remains central to the administration’s vision and is necessary for achieving lasting development. He assured the delegation that the Ministry would continue to collaborate with credible groups to ensure accurate information is widely shared, stressing again that effective communication is key to sustaining public trust in government.

Earlier, the GAT 2027 National Coordinator, Professor Ochugudu Achoda Ipuele, said the visit was to formally brief the Minister on the group’s activities and to express solidarity with his mandate. “We are here to solidarise with you on the mandate you have for Nigeria, which is to inform the country, clarify government policies, and take information to the grassroots,” he said.

Ipuele added that the group is committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies by countering distorted narratives, especially during election periods, and by engaging young people across the country. “This group is poised to respond in real time to false or misleading information in the public space and to engage the youth, so that as we approach 2027, the Renewed Hope agenda continues with even more programmes for the country,” he stated.
