UBEC Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to expanding access and improving the quality of basic education in Nigeria.
She stated that her mandate is to work closely with Nigerians and stakeholders to ensure that every child benefits from quality learning opportunities in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“As the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), part of my mandate is to forge collaborative efforts with all Nigerians to increase access and improve the quality of basic education,” Aisha Garba said.
She explained that the Commission is collaborating with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who she described as a strong supporter of education development in Nigeria. “The SGF, whom I fondly refer to as a friend of the nation, has shown great dedication to improving and ensuring quality basic education in Nigeria,” she noted.
Recently, Senator Akume joined UBEC in hosting a stakeholder education consultation at Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State. The event witnessed a heroic welcome for the SGF, with royal fathers, clergymen, and indigenes of the town in attendance.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary announced that UBEC will intervene in the refurbishment and provision of ICT equipment to schools in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria. She emphasised that this plan will be executed in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Boards as part of UBEC’s efforts to strengthen the education sector.
Aisha Garba was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), the Director of Planning and Programmes, and the Senior Assistant to the Executive Secretary of UBEC.
