20th July, 2025 – The Federal Ministry of Education has officially discredited a circulating report claiming the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) has been cancelled due to examination malpractice.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry described the viral news as “false and misleading,” adding that there is no truth to the allegations.

“The attention of the Federal Ministry of Education has been drawn to a false and misleading statement circulating online, alleging the cancellation of the 2025 WAEC Examinations due to widespread examination malpractice.”

The Ministry clarified that the WAEC 2025 Examinations have already been concluded without major issues. “The 2025 WAEC Examinations have been successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities.”

On the National Examinations Council (NECO) Examinations, the Ministry stated that they are “progressing smoothly, and as of this release, no cases of examination malpractice have been reported.”

Officials noted that no formal reports of widespread malpractice have been submitted by WAEC or NECO. “The Federal Ministry of Education has not received any official communication or report from WAEC, NECO, or any examination body regarding widespread malpractice in either of the examinations.”

The Ministry urged students, parents, schools, and the public to ignore the fake press release. “It is entirely fabricated, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary panic and confusion.”

People are encouraged to rely only on verified platforms such as the Ministry’s website at www.education.gov.ng, the WAEC portal at www.waecnigeria.org, and NECO’s portal at www.neco.gov.ng.

It also warned that spreading false information is a punishable offense. “Anyone found spreading false information will be reported to the appropriate security agencies for investigation and prosecution.”
