WAEC Recruitment 2025: Vacancy for Registrar at Accra HQ

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced a recruitment for the position of Registrar to Council, calling on qualified nationals from its five member countries, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, to apply. The vacancy will take effect from October 1, 2026.

The announcement was released from WAEC Headquarters, P. O. Box GP 125, Accra, Ghana, and describes the Registrar role as a key leadership position.

The Registrar will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Council, responsible for providing administrative leadership, managing policy implementation, and ensuring that WAEC’s mandate is effectively executed across all participating countries.

The appointment will be on a contractual basis for five years, renewable for a maximum of two additional years. The recruitment opportunity has attracted attention due to its high-level administrative expectations and attractive salary structure.

Speaking on the required qualifications, the Council stated,
1. A First Degree from a recognised university (not below Second-Class Lower Division or its equivalent).
2. A Master’s Degree in Educational Measurement and Evaluation or Educational Administration will be an added advantage.
3. Significant training and work experience in administration, preferably within an educational setting.
4. A minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant post-qualification experience, including at least six (6) years in a managerial or leadership position in a comparable testing or assessment organisation.
5. Must currently hold a position not below the rank of Director or its equivalent.
6. Note: Serving officers of the Council must not be below the rank of Deputy Registrar.
7. Applicants must not be more than fifty-eight (58) years old at the time of assuming duty.
8. Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to lead any assessment operations area.
9. Thorough understanding of the Council’s operations and management.
10. In-depth knowledge of the education sector in member countries, including examination systems and assessment methodologies.
11. Ability to develop and implement long-term strategic plans aligned with the Council’s mission and vision.
12. Forward-thinking, with a willingness to adopt innovative technologies and approaches in examinations and assessments
