LAGOS, Nigeria – August 7, 2025 – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary withdrawal of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues during an internal post-release review.
Recall that WAEC 2025 WASSCE Result was recently released.
In an official press release signed by Moyosola Adesina, Ag. Head of Public Affairs, WAEC expressed regret over the situation, saying the decision was made in line with its commitment to fairness and transparency.
“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) sincerely regrets to inform the general public of technical issues discovered during the internal review of the recently released results,” the statement read.
WAEC revealed that it had introduced a new system called paper serialization in subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. According to the Council, this move aimed to prevent examination malpractice and aligns with international best practices in assessments.
However, the Council explained that “an internal post result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results,” prompting an urgent review. Consequently, candidates are temporarily unable to access their results on the result checker portal.
The Council emphasized its responsibility to respond swiftly and professionally. “The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches,” the statement noted.
Candidates who have already checked their results are now advised to re-check after 24 hours. WAEC has promised to complete the corrections and restore access within that timeframe.
WAEC apologized for the inconvenience, saying, “We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding.”
The Council assured stakeholders of its continued dedication to transparency, academic excellence, and service delivery. “Thank you, for always counting on our integrity and reposing confidence in us to render quality service to the Nigerian child,” the statement concluded.
This development affects thousands of Nigerian students and parents who rely on WASSCE results for university admissions and scholarship opportunities.
