The World Bank Group has officially opened applications for the 2026 Africa Fellowship Program, targeting Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D. graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. This highly competitive opportunity gives selected fellows a chance to gain hands-on development experience through a six-month assignment at the World Bank’s Washington D.C. headquarters or one of its country offices.

A spokesperson from the World Bank Africa region stated, “The future of Africa lies in its youth and we believe in your potential.” The program is designed to support young African scholars in becoming part of meaningful development work while enhancing their policy research skills.

Candidates must be under the age of 32 by the deadline and either currently enrolled in the final year of their Ph.D. or have completed one within the past three years. Strong analytical skills, excellent command of English, and a background in relevant fields are required.

“This is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to contribute directly to Africa’s future,” the spokesperson added. Women are especially encouraged to apply, as their participation is described as “vital” to the success and inclusiveness of the program.

The deadline for applications is August 25, 2025.

Interested individuals can apply now through the official website at wbgfellowship.worldbank.org. Applicants will be notified of their status, whether shortlisted or not.
