Governor Mai Mala Buni CON has continued efforts to support families affected by flooding in Potiskum Local Government Area, with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) launching another round of relief on October 1, 2025, in partnership with CARE Nigeria. The intervention was designed to address urgent food security needs and restore hope to households impacted by the disaster.

A total of 755 households across 13 communities in five wards benefited from the exercise. Each household received a package containing 50kg of rice, 25kg of beans, 5 litres of vegetable oil, and salt. In addition, 125 women-headed households were supported with dignity kits, a move aimed at helping the most vulnerable members of society, particularly women and girls, rebuild their lives with dignity.

Speaking during the distribution, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Goje Mohammed, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to reaching every affected community. “We are committed to ensuring that no affected community is left behind,” he said. He called on the beneficiaries to make the best use of the support for the wellbeing of their families, adding that the intervention goes beyond food aid. “This intervention is not only about food but also about restoring hope, dignity, and resilience to those impacted by the disaster,” he added.

Dr. Goje also highlighted the role of humanitarian partners, commending CARE Nigeria for their continued support. “This is not the first time they key into our ongoing support,” he stated, while also appreciating other partners working alongside the state government. He noted that such collaborations are vital in strengthening recovery efforts and ensuring communities can rebuild after emergencies.

The distribution exercise forms part of SEMA’s broader humanitarian response strategy, which combines emergency food aid, non-food items, and resilience-building initiatives. The agency explained that these efforts are critical in enabling households affected by floods in Yobe State to recover and return to stability.
