The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on qualified and motivated young Nigerians to apply for the African Union Digital & Innovation Fellowship 2026/2027 programme, which offers a $2,500 monthly stipend for 12 months.
Nigeria Startup News obtained the announcement on Thursday from NYCN’s Director of Digital Literacy and Innovation, Tope Peter. According to the council, the fellowship presents a unique opportunity for young people to contribute meaningfully to digital transformation, data-driven decision-making, and innovation within African Union institutions.
The fellowship package includes a monthly stipend of $2,500, equipment support of up to $800, a learning budget of $500, as well as access to bootcamps and an international delegation trip.
“Applications are open to passionate young Nigerians ready to grow, lead, and make impact within African Union institutions,” the statement read. The statement was signed by Benjamin Onileowo, NYCN’s Spokesperson.
The AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship currently features 12 specialised technical tracks. These include Data Analytics & Monitoring Systems, Digital Product & Programme Systems, Digital Communications, ERP SAP and Business Intelligence, Full-Stack Development, and HR Digital Systems and Processes, among others.
Selected fellows will support key projects such as improving digital infrastructure, developing interactive dashboards, modernising human capital systems, and automating workflows to improve operational efficiency across AU institutions.
The programme is hosted by the African Union and implemented by enpact, with support from the GIZ DataCipation program, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
NYCN advised interested applicants to carefully review the terms of reference for each fellowship position and ensure their applications align with their professional skills and career goals. Inquiries can be directed to +234 701 431 2797.
The council noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to empower African youth with relevant skills, exposure, and opportunities to influence policy and innovation at a continental level.
Interested candidates are expected to submit their applications by March 2026 via https://enpact.org/au-digital-innovation-fellowship-positions.
