The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially announced the 2025 NERC Essay Competition. This annual event invites Senior Secondary School Year Two (SS2) students from both public and private schools in Nigeria to participate.
This year’s topic, “Electricity Theft: Implications and Consequences in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry,” addresses a major challenge in the country’s power sector.
NERC confirmed in a release that entries will be accepted from 6:00 pm on May 16, 2025, until 6:00 pm on June 15, 2025.
Attractive cash prizes await the top three students, their teachers, and their schools. Ten runners-up will also receive consolation prizes.

All essays must be 1,000 words, attached to an email, and sent to electricitychallenge@nerc.gov.ng with complete personal and school details clearly included.
