The National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) has opened applications for the Climate Youth Negotiators Programme (CYNP) 2026, an initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s climate governance and preparing a new generation of young climate leaders.

The programme invites young professionals working in government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) who have experience in climate change to express interest in joining the 2026 cohort. CYNP is designed to build the technical, policy, and diplomatic skills required for effective participation in international climate change negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and related global processes.

The programme seeks to develop a strong pipeline of skilled youth negotiators who can effectively represent Nigeria’s interests in international climate discussions and contribute to shaping sustainable climate policies.

Through the programme, selected participants will receive mentorship, structured capacity-building sessions, and specialized training on climate negotiation strategies. The six-month programme will also focus on strengthening participants’ understanding of UNFCCC procedures and the unique climate priorities of African and other developing nations. In addition, participants may receive support to take part in the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP 31), providing them with practical exposure to global climate negotiations.

To be eligible, applicants must be Nigerian citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of application. They must also be employed in a government Ministry, Department, or Agency working in a climate change-related field.

Applications for the Climate Youth Negotiators Programme (CYNP) close on 10 March 2026.
