Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the distribution of over 620,000 palm seedlings valued at ₦2.5 billion to registered farmers across the 31 Local Government Areas, in a move aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening the state’s economy.

The approval was granted by Governor Umo Eno during the March Projects Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, following a presentation by the Agriculture and Food Security Committee. The initiative is part of the administration’s broader strategy to expand the agricultural sector and create sustainable income opportunities for farmers.

Speaking at the meeting, the Governor stressed that the programme aligns with efforts to drive economic growth through agriculture, noting that the state remains committed to investing in initiatives that deliver measurable impact. He stated that the distribution of the seedlings would support farmers and increase palm produce output across the state.

“This initiative is part of our deliberate efforts to boost agricultural productivity and economic growth,” the Governor said, adding that a formal launch of the programme will be conducted at a later date.

The seedlings distribution forms part of a wider development framework being implemented by the administration, which includes multiple projects across key sectors. Governor Eno highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among government institutions to ensure effective delivery of such initiatives.

“We must strengthen collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies to drive greater output and ensure efficient service delivery,” he said.

The government noted that the programme would target registered farmers, ensuring that resources are directed towards individuals actively engaged in agricultural production. By expanding oil palm cultivation, the state aims to position itself as a stronger player in the agricultural value chain while improving rural livelihoods.

In addition to the agricultural intervention, the administration continues to review and implement projects designed to stimulate economic activity and improve infrastructure across the state. The Governor reiterated that timely execution remains a priority, with clear timelines already set for several ongoing projects.

He also assured that the government is maintaining engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all development efforts, including those in agriculture, deliver tangible benefits to residents.

“The commitment of this administration is to continue to do its best in delivering on the ARISE Agenda for the benefit of all Akwa Ibom people,” he said.
