The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, through the Nigeria AI Collective, has opened applications for its AI Community of Practice (CoP), a structured platform aimed at strengthening collaboration and responsible artificial intelligence use across Nigeria.

This initiative is designed as an open and continuous engagement forum, connecting professionals and institutions within journalism, civil society, academia, and the broader technology ecosystem.

About the AI Community of Practice

The AI Community of Practice builds on over a year of CJID’s work under its AI Initiatives project. Through this effort, the organisation has brought together stakeholders across multiple sectors to promote inclusive and accountable AI development in Nigeria.

These engagements have supported civil society organisations with advocacy-driven capacity building, while also equipping lecturers and media professionals with the knowledge to integrate AI into teaching, research, and newsroom practice.

In addition, CJID has implemented programmes such as the AI Reporting Fellowship, enabling journalists to produce in-depth, evidence-based reports on the societal impact of artificial intelligence. The organisation has also hosted multi-stakeholder AI summits and developed innovation-focused platforms like the AI in Journalism Incubator, where practical tools addressing newsroom challenges have been created.

The launch of this Community of Practice represents a formal expansion of these efforts into a more accessible and structured network.
